I love my mom.

She has made sacrifices for me and provided me with a life full of opportunities that I could never fully thank her for.

But this weekend I’ll try to do just that.

This Sunday, May 8, is Mother’s Day. Procrastinating shoppers, like me, will frantically hit the stores in search of something to demonstrate how much mom means to us.

What does Mother’s Day mean for your small business?

Influencer marketing platform, The Shelf, recently released a guide to the business of Mother’s Day. You can see their full infographic below.

Here are some of the most important things for you to keep in mind this Mother’s Day:

1. Consumers are ready to spend around $21 BILLION.

In 2005, moms saw a collective $11.5 billion in monetary love. In 2015, that number grew to $21.2 billion.

And these gifts aren’t just going to the consumer’s mother. Shoppers are buying gifts for all of the women in their life, such as daughters, relatives, sisters, grandmothers, and friends.

There are 85.4 million mothers in the United States and 84 percent of people celebrate Mother’s Day. In other words, you have a LOT of potential customers this holiday! Don’t miss out.

2. Greeting cards, flowers, and special outings are the top three ways to show love.

If you own a flower shop, you’re in luck! A whopping 67 percent of consumers buy flowers for Mother’s Day, landing the holiday the #1 spot for floral sales.

Greeting cards make up 80 percent of Mother’s Day sales, so be sure to stock your shelves.

No matter what your small business sells or provides, be sure to keep moms in mind this weekend.

3. Digital marketing can make or break your Mother’s Day sales.

With one in three shoppers making a Mother’s Day purchase online, digital marketing is vital to your success this holiday.

Keep in mind that Mother’s Day is celebrated around the world. If you offer international shipping, be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to share your products with moms around the globe via social media and other online promotions.
