Facebook Reducing Overly Promotional Page Posts in News Feed

Facebook announced upcoming changes to what posts will appear in your newsfeed, reducing the amount of “overly promotional” posts. They want to reduce the extent to which organic posts by brands are, in essence, being used as ads.

Based on user feedback, Facebook finds three types of post that are overly promotional:

  1. Posts that solely push people to buy a product or install an app
  2. Posts that push people to enter promotions and sweepstakes with no real context
  3. Posts that reuse the exact same content from ads

If brands want to advertise to their audiences on Facebook, then Facebook wants them to pay for this.
